Opinion: Safety has always been a blessing, not a promise

The active shooter incident at Deerbrook Mall in Humble this weekend stirred up emotions for all of us, I'm certain. For me, it also brought back memories I hadn't thought about in years.Like so many of you, I spent much of Saturday evening following the reports. As publisher of Bluebonnet News, I wanted to make sure my readers had accurate information as it became available. As the updates continued to come in, I was not just watching as a journalist. I was watching as a mom and grandmother, and as someone trying to make sense of another act of violence in a place where families should have been making memories instead of running for their lives.
